A von&vonnie staple since day one on landing on our roastery door. We love this coffee so dearly as it is so easy to drink and a real crowd pleaser. With gentle citric acidity and a rich, sweet, velvety, chocolate body it is hard to not fall in love with this coffee as either a filter or espresso (or even with a little bit of milk!)
What makes this coffee even greater is the fantastic work being done by Nadine and her team at Primavera at origin. Nadine was born and raised by a coffee producing family in Guatemala. In 2013 Nadine started “Third Wave Coffee Sourcing” – now Primavera Coffee as a means to connect her family’s coffee as well as other producers’ coffee to the global markets – and we think Primavera are doing an excellent job at that! From day one, Primavera has pledged to economic transparency as a means of showing their pillars of sustainable practice. Moving forward the company have committed to focus on also building a second pillar of sustainable practice focussed on environmental aspects.
The sisterhood project in particular is one that we really admire. The coffee is a blend of 84-85point coffee produced in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, exclusively from female producers. In the words of Primavera:
“This blend was created to celebrate the efforts of women who produce coffee in the Huehuetenango region. The role of women in the coffee value chain continues to evolve and they earn more recognition with each year that passes. When roasters purchase this coffee, a portion of the price goes to fund workshops that are targeted to women coffee producers, so that they can access key agronomy and post-harvest processing trainings.”
About the processing:
84-85pt cherries were collected from female small holder farmers in Huehuetenango to create this balanced, sweet, archetypal profile. They were then wash processed collectively.
About the roast:
We roasted this coffee a little bit less light than some of our other coffees to ensure a high sweetness and roundness in the cup.
