Hailing from the peaks of the Montecillos mountain range we bring to you this beautiful microlot coffee from Emiliana Montoya filled with bright acidity and sweet, subtle florals and some herbal notes. Lately this coffee has become a team favourite, we find that the profile is incredibly warming and cosy on these colder days. This microlot is also featured as a part of the blend from the Sueños lot which we also have available, we think it is so great to be able to taste this coffee in isolation and also as a part of the blend.
Emiliana is a veteran producer, she began cultivating coffee in 2005, she follows on from her parents who were also coffee producers who were producing primarily the Indio variety – a local variant of typica. Emiliana states that for her and her family coffee has provided the most reliable source of income. However, her journey has not been easy, Emiliana had to sell her coffee at low prices and over the past few years input costs have risen and the rise of pests and disease have made cultivation and production more difficult – it has made providing for her family with coffee increasingly challenging.
With the intention of increasing the value of her coffee to provide better opportunities to her children Emiliana has turned to planting improved coffee varieties to sell on the differentiated market. It is Emiliana’s dream to one day meet the consumers of her coffee and to travel and we at von&vonnie are grateful for the hard work that Emiliana and her family are doing to produce such wonderful coffees and we hope this dream can come true.
The coffee Emiliana is producing is truly fantastic with great florality, fruity flavours and candylike sweetness. This coffee is a key example of the kind of coffees we love at von&vonnie, sweet, vibrant with excellent fidelity. This microlot is truly amazing and we are so happy we get to roast and drink it.
About the Processing: Cherries are picked at peak ripeness and de-pulped right after, then fermented with the mucilage for 48 hours in tiled-covered tanks.
