This is a new coffee for us at von&vonnie teaming up with some new partners, the wonderful team of Amkeni, via ThisSideUp and Wanza. We love the bright berry complexity of this coffee with its tea-like body and gentle florality. This is a fantastic washed everyday coffee.

The group of Amkeni is a collection of 150 farmers working on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro composed primarily of older men, which is a significant problem in the region as coffee growing is not seen as being a sustainable project in this area due to a lack of youth participation and lack of lucrative rewards. Celebration of these fantastic projects and coffees is incredibly important to us and paying a fair price for these coffees reaffirms that coffee production can be an economically sustainable career.

By working with Wanza, Amkeni is given access to the international markets that allows them to receive fair compensation for the excellent work they are doing. This year Amkeni won a best harvest award.

We really hope you love this coffee as much as we are and we hope that this can be the first year of many to come working with the wonderful Amkeni.

About the processing:
Cherries are brought to a central pulper where they are depulped, soaked over night and floated using raised channels and set out to dry on raised beds. The group runs a central washing station equipped with both depulper and drying beds.

About the roast:

We roasted this coffee very lightly and fast, yet we decided to stretch out the maillard phase to accentuate the sweetness in this coffee.
